While our mission is rooted in our dedication to serving the ministry and congregations of the PCUSA, William Black Lodge welcomes a wide range of guests — including church groups of all denominations, nonprofit organizations, educational groups, families, and individuals.

Our lodge and conference center is located in picturesque Montreat, NC, just two miles from Black Mountain and 18 miles from Asheville. Guests can enjoy the peace and tranquility of our mountain setting from the lodge’s rocking chair front porch, discover excellent hiking or mountain adventures either a short walk or drive from the lodge, or experience the vibrant culture and outdoor activities the wider region has to offer. For those looking for a quieter pace, our Arts and Crafts-style lobby is a perfect spot for reading, conversation, or quiet reflection.

William Black Lodge is fully equipped with wireless Internet, making it an ideal setting for both unplugging and staying connected. The lodge is smoke-free. Alcohol is permitted and may be responsibly enjoyed in public spaces. Meals prepared by our chef are available with advance arrangement, and our team is happy to support your group’s event or retreat planning needs.

Our director, Rev. Tommy Brown, brings years of experience leading retreats and coordinating events. He’s also a great resource for local history, hiking recommendations, and things to do in the Montreat and Asheville area — from breweries and dining to scenic drives and outdoor adventures.

Open year-round, we welcome individuals and groups when space allows. Summer and fall are our busiest seasons, but Montreat offers something special in every season. We also partner with the nearby Montreat Conference Center to provide accommodations for conference attendees.

Group Meetings

William Black Lodge is a great place to bring your small to medium size group of up to 75 for day use.  We can accommodate up to 50 individuals overnight for a group retreat, conference, family reunion or other event.

For many years, William Black Lodge has hosted church family retreats, women's retreats, leadership retreats, and youth groups from across the region.  The lodge provides an all-inclusive setting including guest rooms, food service, and meeting space all in one comfortable facility. ​
