Q. What are the accommodations at William Black Lodge?
A. The lodge has 25 guest rooms with private bathrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. These rooms are set with either queen beds or twin beds which can also be configured as king beds. There are also a few rooms with double beds. Each room has a separate heating/air conditioning unit. There is a large conference room/chapel, a spacious lobby with fireplace and comfortable furniture, a dining room with capacity for 50 persons, a large front porch with rocking chairs and a private patio with additional seating and table. The lodge also has a nearby cottage with 2 bedrooms connected by a single bathroom.
Q. Who can stay at William Black Lodge?
A. Simply stated - anyone and everyone. William Black Lodge welcomes all persons to be guests at the Lodge regardless who you are or why you wish to stay in Montreat. If you are seeking a great place to stay in Montreat, you are welcome regardless of your denomination, religious affiliation, or any other affiliation. As a ministry of the PCUSA, William Black Lodge offers special rates and early booking for congregations and groups affiliated with the PCUSA. The lodge also has special rates for persons in ministry of the PCUSA.
Q. Is there morning coffee and tea?
A. Yes. All guests of the lodge are welcome to enjoy coffee and tea service in the lobby available by 7 am each morning (when we have at least 5 guestrooms in use). When fewer than 5 rooms are in use, individual coffee/tea set-up is available in guestrooms or suite rooms.
Q. What activities are available to guests of William Black Lodge?
A. There are so many options it is impossible to list them in one place. William Black Lodge has arrangement with program partners to offer a variety of group or individual activities. The Lodge is located in the midst of Montreat which offers options for learning, recreation, hiking, walking, shopping, dancing, or just enjoying the unique mountain cove of Montreat. The lodge is also located within short drives to Black Mountain, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure and of course Asheville.
But if you are looking to just rest and relax - we have a great front porch with rocking chairs.
Q. Are meals available at William Black Lodge?
A. Yes, but not always. Please, do not assume that meals will be served unless you or a group leader/organizer has called the lodge and made arrangements in advance.
The lodge does have a full-service kitchen and the director is an experienced chef. Meals are available only when a group of at least 15 persons have pre-arranged for meal service at least 2 weeks in advance of their stay. When meal service has been pre-arranged for at least 15 persons, other individuals and small groups staying at the lodge may also make arrangements for foodservice with meals at the same time as the arranging group.
As such, meals are generally available on weekends and at limited times during summer season. It is also possible, if groups prefer, to arrange for lodge staff support and for groups to cook for themselves using the lodge kitchen. There is also catering available with local providers. Check with the Guest Service Manager for availability at the time of your reservation or to make arrangements as needed.

A. William Black Lodge is located with-in the Montreat Conference Center complex. Various facilities including Assembly Inn, Convocation Hall, and Anderson Auditorium of the conference center are just a short walk from William Black Lodge. If you are attending an event at the Conference Center, you can easily walk and leave your car parked at the lodge. For those who prefer to drive, it is a .4-mile drive along Georgia Terrace. A. Our lodge is perfect for groups seeking a place to meet in Montreat or in the greater Asheville area. The William Henry Belk Conference Center can accommodate meetings of up to 85 people. It includes audio, video and Internet capabilities. Our other meeting locations,which can also be used for breakout meetings, include the Alice K. Smith Meeting Room, with a capacity of 8-10 people; the Alcove, with a capacity of 6-8 people; and the Annex, with a capacity of 10-15 people. Our outdoor patio provides meeting space in a garden setting for up to 12 people.
