TAKE A TOUR

  • Welcome to Montreat, NC, home of the William Black Lodge and Retreat Center.

  • You will travel about one mile from the Montreat gate to our lodge and retreat center, which sits on a hill above Lake Susan.

  • Guests enjoy relaxing on our rocking chair front porch.

  • Guests enjoy gathering around the fireplace, constructed of indigenous mica stone, in our rustic living room furnished in Arts and Crafts era pieces.

  • Beautiful, hand-crafted stained glass windows add warmth and serenity to meetings in the William Henry Belk Conference Center, which can be set up auditorium-style for groups of up to 85.

  • The William Henry Belk Conference Center can be divided into two smaller spaces and is equipped with modern meeting technology for audio-visual presentations.

  • The William Black Lodge is known for its delicious home-style meals, prepared under the direction of our kitchen manager, Cathy Edney.

  • Meals are served buffet-style in our dining room. Rooms can be booked on the American Plan, with three meals included in the daily rate.

  • We can accommodate 65 people in our main dining room and annex.

  • We also have rooms with queen-size beds and private bath.

  • A limited number of rooms are available with king-size beds and private bath.

  • We also have a cottage, situated at the top of a hillside path above the lodge, which accommodates up to seven people. It includes a small kitchenette and two bathrooms.

  • Lake Susan, located in the center of Montreat, is just a short walk from our front porch. In summer months, you can fish and rent paddleboats there.

  • Montreat has more than 20 hiking trails, providing everything from moderate to strenuous excursions.

  • A map of area trails is available at our front desk. The Nature Center, located near Lake Susan, offers guided hikes during the summer months.
