The William Black Lodge and Retreat Center, located in the heart of Montreat, NC, is one of Western North Carolina’s best-kept secrets. We offer affordable lodging for nonprofit groups and church groups of up to 65, and our conference center accommodates up to 85 for meetings, retreats and other events. We’re just four miles from Interstate 40, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Montreat, derived from the words “mountain” and “retreat,” was founded in the early 1900s as a spiritual retreat, and it retains that peaceful character yet today. Trails and streams meander through and around the town, which sits at the foot of Greybeard Mountain surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Our lodge is a nonprofit organization chartered by the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are dedicated to a single goal: providing a comfortable and peaceful setting where people can come for renewal, worship and fellowship, surrounded by the beauty of the North Carolina mountains.
Guests enjoy the cozy ambience of our three-story lodge, constructed in 1950 of native stone on a hill above Lake Susan. Our rocking chair front porch draws guests to read, relax or socialize in the cool mountain air.
We work to make each and every guest feel at home. Tell us your vision for your stay, and we will do our best to make it a reality.
